Formed in Bolton in 1976 around Howard Devoto and Pete Shelley, Buzzcocks were pioneers of punk in Manchester, putting on gigs and inviting the Sex Pistols to perform in the city for the first time. Their debut EP, Spiral Scratch, was self-produced on their own label and inspired countless other band to join the DIY indie scene. Devoto left early on to form Magazine, but the band continued, enjoying chart success with tracks like Ever Fallen in Love (With Someone You Shouldn't've).

They are commonly regarded as an important influence on the Manchester music scene, the independent record label movement and the punk rock , power pop , pop punk and indie rock genres in general. From 1978 to 1980, in parallel with Buzzcocks, he was a member of The Teardrops , which was mostly his school band, along with The Fall 's Karl Burns , Martin Bramah and Tony Friel , who released two EPs in 1978, In and out of Fashion and Leave Me No Choice , and a 7" single in 1979, Seeing Double , as well as an album called Final Vinyl in 1980. [4] [5] Shortly after the release of the album, it seems the band changed their name to Bok Bok , and consisted of Garvey, Burns and a singer and guitarist called Dave Price.
